Spiral depressions known as puquios, found on Peru's Nazca desert, were likely ancient wells forming part of an elaborate underground water canal system built by the Nazca civilisation. For years they puzzled archaeologists. Long-running research has allowed scientists to determine their probable purpose as part of an irrigation network.
