EU bans microplastics in cosmetics — first changes in 2027

EU Regulation 2023/2055, in force since 17 October 2023, phases out intentionally added microplastics from cosmetics including scrubs, waterproof mascaras and foundations. The rules target synthetic polymer particles smaller than 5 mm added at concentrations of 0.01% by weight or more. Manufacturers must reformulate products ahead of deadlines in 2027, 2029 and 2035.
