Google builds Austrian data centre that could consume 7% of the country's electricity

Google is building Austria's first hyperscale data centre on the outskirts of the small village of Kronstorf, two hours from Vienna. At full capacity, the facility could consume the equivalent of 7% of Austria's total electricity demand — more than all Viennese households combined. A local opposition group, led by IT expert Harald Müllner, is fighting to block the project's expansion over energy and sovereignty concerns.
