One in five Russian coal companies may close within five years, industry chief warns

Aleksandr Isayev, CEO and co-owner of the Elga Group — operator of Russia's largest coal deposit — warned that one in five Russian coal companies could close within the next five years. The industry is facing its deepest crisis since the 1990s. The sector is under mounting pressure from Western sanctions that have sharply curtailed Russian coal exports.
