Norwegian researchers catch barnacle "evolving in real time" — now parasitising sharks

Researchers at the University of Bergen in western Norway studied the barnacle Anelasma squalicola and found it is abandoning filter-feeding in favour of drawing nutrients directly from fish, primarily sharks. The scientists describe the finding as "catching evolution in the act." The discovery offers a rare glimpse into an organism transitioning between feeding strategies in real time.
