Scientists discover 6 unknown structures 2,900 km beneath Earth's surface

Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences used AI algorithms to analyse seismic data and discovered six previously unknown structures at the boundary between Earth's mantle and its liquid outer core, roughly 2,900 km below the surface. The findings were published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth. Processes in this zone drive plate tectonics, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
