FDA approves freeze-dried plasma that reconstitutes in minutes without refrigeration

On 29 July, the US FDA licensed EZPLAZ Freeze Dried Plasma, made by Teleflex's Vascular Solutions — the first freeze-dried plasma approved for use, storable at room temperature and ready to transfuse within minutes. Previously, plasma had to be kept frozen, making it impractical in disaster zones or locations far from hospitals. Polish scientists are also working on a freeze-free blood substitute.
