Poland's fuel subsidy programme cost the state budget billions; drivers now pay 1 zł more per litre

The "Lower Fuel Prices" programme ended on 31 August, and from 1 September fuel prices at stations rose by up to 1 zloty per litre. The ministry disclosed the cost to the state budget of restarting the scheme for the second half of August. Drivers reacted bitterly to the price hike, with one comparing the savings to the price of a waffle at the seaside.
