Nepal plans to raise Everest permit fee to $100,000 to attract wealthy climbers

Nepal is processing a new Tourism Act (2081) that would sharply raise costs for climbing Everest — potentially to $100,000 — as part of a strategy to focus on "premium tourism". Tourism committee chair Sumnima Udas explained the goal is to attract wealthy visitors rather than mass-market climbers. The law also foresees development of currently undervalued segments such as wellness tourism.
