Arizona's reflective road coatings cut surface heat but warm daytime air above
Reflective coatings applied to roads in Arizona reduce how much heat the surface absorbs, improving nighttime temperatures. However, during the day the air above the treated asphalt becomes significantly hotter, as reflected solar radiation heats the space above the road, potentially worsening heat stress for pedestrians.
