Khat: the drug increasingly smuggled into the US — 1,200 lbs seized at Chicago O'Hare

Around 1,200 pounds (roughly 550 kg) of khat were seized at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. Khat is a plant stimulant widely used in East Africa and the Middle East that is illegal in the United States but increasingly smuggled into the country. It contains cathinone, a substance with amphetamine-like effects.
