Sony and music publishers sue Anthropic for piracy — $1.5bn settlement not enough, they say
Sony, EMI and Warner Chappell Music have filed a lawsuit against Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI model, alleging it illegally downloaded thousands of copyrighted musical compositions to train its AI. The publishers argue a prior $1.5 billion settlement — covering over 7 million pirated books — is insufficient for a company now valued at $2 trillion. Internal staff chats praising the piracy platform Zlibrary are cited as evidence in the suit.
