Icelanders vote against resuming EU membership talks in referendum
Icelanders voted against restarting EU accession negotiations in a referendum, prioritising national control over the country's prized fisheries over geopolitical stability arguments. Talks with the EU had begun after the 2008 financial crisis but were halted by a Eurosceptic government. The referendum result means Iceland will remain outside the bloc for the foreseeable future.
