Spinning star meets black hole: physicists explain mysterious repeat events

Astrophysicists at Syracuse University in New York have proposed a new explanation for repeating partial Tidal Disruption Events (rpTDEs), in which a star passes close to a supermassive black hole without being fully consumed. The researchers believe the rapid spin of the star may be a previously overlooked factor driving the strange, recurring behaviour. The study sheds new light on some of the most energetic and puzzling interactions in the universe.
