Iceland votes against restarting EU membership talks in referendum
In a referendum, 52.8% of Icelandic voters rejected the government's proposal to resume EU accession talks, according to public broadcaster RUV. Iceland is a member of the European Economic Area and maintains close ties with the EU, but has historically kept its distance from full membership. The result puts a halt to any near-term prospect of Iceland joining the bloc.
