Scientists recreate Neptune's "diamond rain" and find clues for nuclear fusion

A team from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory recreated the extreme conditions found deep inside Neptune and Uranus, confirming the hypothesis that diamonds rain down in those planets' interiors. The experiment also yielded unexpected insights that could improve approaches to initiating nuclear fusion reactions on Earth.
