Experts propose new heart failure definition — ejection fraction no longer the key measure
An international panel of experts is proposing a new universal definition of heart failure that moves away from ejection fraction (EF) as the primary diagnostic parameter. The updated approach emphasises the causes of the disease, early detection and the fact that a patient's condition can change over time. A normal EF result does not always mean the heart is functioning correctly.
