Icelanders reject EU accession talks — 52.8% vote against

Icelanders voted against resuming EU accession negotiations in a referendum, with 52.8% opposed and 47.2% in favour, on an 82.5% turnout. Social Democrat Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir said the result would be respected and no further accession negotiations would take place. Parliament's foreign affairs committee will discuss how to formally close the chapter.
