Future Cascadia megaquake could hit Oregon far harder than previously thought

Scientists found that the Juan de Fuca tectonic plate beneath northern Oregon is shallower than previously estimated, which could make shaking from a future Cascadia megathrust earthquake significantly stronger. A deep basin discovered beneath Tillamook could also trap seismic waves and intensify the shaking further. The findings suggest Oregon faces a greater risk of destruction than previously assumed.
