Spirulina engineered to contain active vitamin B12 comparable to beef
Researchers have developed a method of growing Spirulina that contains biologically active vitamin B12 at levels comparable to beef, by carefully controlling the light conditions during cultivation. Conventional Spirulina largely contains a form of B12 the human body cannot absorb, a problem this approach overcomes. The carbon-neutral system could offer a sustainable dietary alternative for people avoiding animal products.
