Hundreds of hidden earthquakes found beneath Antarctica's Thwaites Glacier

Researchers detected hundreds of previously overlooked seismic events beneath Antarctica, including 245 near the marine edge of the Thwaites Glacier — sometimes called the "Doomsday Glacier." Many appear to be glacial earthquakes caused by massive icebergs breaking off, capsizing, and colliding with the glacier. The surge in activity coincided with a period when Thwaites was flowing faster toward the ocean, suggesting changing ocean conditions may be destabilizing the ice.
