Norway pushes for Arctic drilling despite EU opposition — what about gas supplies?
Norway plans to seek new oil and gas deposits in the Barents Sea in the Arctic, despite EU opposition to drilling in the region. Norwegian gas currently accounts for around 30 percent of Europe's supply, making Oslo's plans strategically significant for the continent. XTB analyst Kamil Szczepański notes that Europe is not Norway's only customer, giving Oslo room to manoeuvre.
