"Ocalone" play breaks decades of silence on mass rapes at Warsaw's Zieleniak camp
For decades, the mass sexual violence against women at Warsaw's Zieleniak detention site during the Warsaw Uprising was suppressed and erased from collective memory. Actress Agnieszka Przepiórska discusses the one-woman show "Ocalone," based on the stories of women imprisoned there, in a conversation with journalist Magdalena Rigamonti. The pair reflect on why rape has long been used as a weapon of war and why women's wartime experiences are so often marginalised.
