2,600 medieval silver coins unearthed near Moscow — plague victim may have buried them

Archaeologists in Kolomna, Russia — about 114 km southeast of Moscow — discovered a medieval hoard of 2,600 silver coins buried in a ceramic jug. Over 350 of the coins are a previously unknown type of denga, first minted by the Grand Principality of Moscow in the late 14th century. Researchers believe the hoard may have been hidden by a nobleman who subsequently died of plague.
