El Niño intensifying rapidly and could set a new record
Oceanologist Jacek Piskozub of the Polish Academy of Sciences' Institute of Oceanology warns that this year's El Niño is developing with unusual speed. He points to an exceptionally high Pacific surface temperature anomaly for this time of year as the key indicator. Scientists predict the phenomenon could reach unprecedented intensity in the coming months.
