Antonina Kulhava is clearing Ukraine of Russian mines, field by field

Since Russia's invasion in 2022, Ukraine has become one of the most heavily mined countries in the world, posing a devastating risk to civilians. Humanitarian deminer Antonina Kulhava is working to clear land of mines and unexploded ordnance across the country. "Where there were bombs, there are now sunflowers," she says, describing the slow process of making Ukraine safe again.
