NATO builds Europe's largest defensive barrier since the Cold War, from Narva to Podlaskie
A vast system of bunkers, dragon's teeth and fortifications stretching from the Gulf of Finland to Poland's Podlaskie region is taking shape along NATO's eastern flank. The Baltic Defence Line and Poland's Tarcza Wschód (Eastern Shield) aim to stop a Russian advance at the border, but member states approach the concept differently — Latvia places barriers on the border itself, while Poland deliberately positions them further inland. The scale makes it the continent's largest fortification effort since the Cold War.
