Intel unveils Diamond Rapids Xeon, Crescent Island GPU and Wildcat Lake SoC for agentic AI

At Hot Chips, Intel unveiled three architectures for agentic AI workloads: the 256-core Diamond Rapids Xeon server chip (arriving in 2027), the Crescent Island inference GPU supporting up to 480 GB via partner cards (Intel's own variant limited to 160 GB), and the already-shipping Wildcat Lake SoC with a 17 TOPS NPU. Diamond Rapids matches AMD's EPYC Venice on core count but offers half the threads; Wildcat Lake falls short of the 40+ TOPS needed for Copilot+ certification.
