US appeals court rules Kalshi sports bets are gambling, not financial swaps

The US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit unanimously ruled that Nevada can block prediction market Kalshi from offering sports-event contracts. Three Trump-appointed judges rejected Kalshi's argument that its sports contracts are federally regulated "swaps" rather than gambling subject to state law. Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo stated that prediction markets offering sports contracts must comply with the state's gaming laws.
