Ancient global warming wiped out 60% of forest cover — a warning for today
A new study found that an intense global warming event 56 million years ago caused forests in what is now Wyoming to lose roughly 60 percent of their canopy cover. It took more than 100,000 years for the forests to recover. Researchers describe the findings as a cautionary tale for today's climate crisis.
