Dark UV patches on Venus: scientists narrow it down but the mystery remains

New analyses of Venus's cloud layers suggest that the planet's distinctive dark ultraviolet patterns are caused by an unidentified substance with exceptionally strong light absorption or surprisingly high concentration. Despite increasingly precise calculations, scientists still cannot determine what the "absorber" is or where it comes from. The mystery of Venus's dark UV bands remains one of the planet's key unsolved questions.
