Russia upholds 15-year sentence for 70-year-old Ukrainian woman who sang in court
A Russian appeals court upheld a 15-year labour-colony sentence for 70-year-old Ukrainian citizen Svitlana Loi, convicted of "state treason" for making several bank transfers to the Ukrainian military. Journalists were only allowed into the courtroom at the moment the verdict was announced. At that point, the woman began singing the popular Ukrainian song "Ballad to the Mother."
