Russia blocks Wikipedia — encyclopedia goes dark for Russian internet users

Wikipedia went offline for Russian internet users overnight on 27–28 August, the latest move by the Kremlin to restrict access to independent information. Russia has long sought to tighten control over online content. Access to blocked content remains possible but carries risks for users.
