US Air Force stands up new HH-60W squadron for VIP evacuation near Washington

The US Air Force formally activated the 5th Helicopter Squadron at Andrews Air Force Base to operate the new HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopters. The aircraft will replace ageing UH-1N Twin Hueys and be configured for VIP transport around Washington and continuity-of-government missions. Concerns have been raised that assigning Jolly Green IIs to these duties could reduce the overall fleet's capacity to perform combat search and rescue missions, their original purpose.
