Capuchin monkeys hunt vertebrates when fruit is scarce — clue to human meat-eating origins

Bearded capuchin monkeys in northeastern Brazil normally eat plant-based foods but switch to hunting small vertebrates when those sources run low. Researchers suggest early human ancestors may have followed the same pattern, gradually making predatory behaviour more common in our lineage. The finding could help explain how regular meat-eating became part of the human evolutionary repertoire.
