Scientists find the brain undergoes a key shift around age 50
Scientists have discovered that around the age of 50, significant changes begin in the hippocampus: the composition of the brain's immune cells shifts, cells supporting neurons decline, and DNA organisation weakens. These changes are imperceptible day to day but may help explain why ageing raises the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's.
