Ex-Iceland PM: EU referendum result won't force restart of accession talks

Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, leader of Iceland's Centre Party and former prime minister, says the upcoming EU referendum does not bind Reykjavík to reopening accession talks, even if the "Yes" vote wins. He argues the referendum wording is vague enough that simply asking Brussels what it would offer Iceland could satisfy the mandate. Iceland dropped its previous EU membership bid in 2015 over fishery quota disputes.
