Two German airport workers die of malaria carried by mosquito on a plane
Two airport workers in Germany died of malaria after being infected by an Anopheles mosquito that most likely arrived on a flight from a tropical region. Malaria, caused by parasites spread by Anopheles mosquitoes, produces symptoms including nausea, headache and intense waves of fever and chills. The case highlights the risk of so-called airport malaria for people near international airports who have never travelled to the tropics.
