UK railways struggle with heat: derailments and calls for fixes

Britain's railways have suffered repeated heat-related failures this summer during one of the hottest and driest seasons on record. A derailment near Lewes, East Sussex injured 30 people, and the following day rear carriages of a Greater Anglia train derailed at Wickford, Essex with no injuries. Network Rail acknowledged the summer has "presented exceptional challenges to the railway."
