Iceland votes on 29 August whether to restart EU accession negotiations
Iceland, a country with barely more inhabitants than Bydgoszcz, has for decades been reluctant to pursue EU membership. On 29 August its citizens will vote in a referendum on whether to restart accession negotiations with Brussels. The country has never maintained a standing army and draws all its electricity and heating from geothermal volcanic sources.
