Iran war leaves US military stretched thin in the Pacific and Europe

The US war against Iran has forced the Pentagon to pull key air defences and its last aircraft carrier group from the Pacific, while largely halting maritime missions in the South China Sea. Fighter jet rotations defending NATO's borders with Russia have also been curtailed. Five former defence officials and allies warn the reduced presence, combined with Trump's conciliatory approach to Russia and North Korea, is undermining Washington's global deterrence credibility.
