AstraZeneca explains failed heart disease trial: drug showed no benefit for patients already on stabilisers

AstraZeneca has detailed the surprising failure of its closely watched Phase 3 clinical trial for the progressive heart condition ATTR-CM. Its experimental "silencer" drug provided no added benefit for patients already taking a "stabiliser" drug — and most trial participants were on a stabiliser from the start, undermining the entire study. The setback has implications not only for AstraZeneca and partner Ionis Pharmaceuticals, but also for rivals Alnylam and BridgeBio, which also market ATTR-CM treatments.
