Up to 45°C in southern Europe as extreme heat hits Italy and the Balkans

Southern Europe is bracing for another bout of extreme heat, described as the last major heatwave of the month. Italy has issued the highest alert level for nine major cities, while Sicilian and Sardinian temperatures could reach 45°C. The Balkans will also be affected, with Saharan dust expected to accompany the high temperatures.
