Icelanders vote 29 August on resuming EU accession negotiations
On Saturday, 29 August, Icelanders will vote in a referendum on whether their country should make a second attempt to join the European Union. Accession negotiations were suspended in 2013, but the membership application was never formally withdrawn. The issue returned to public debate following last year's visit by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Iceland.
