Fidesz admits Hungary's democracy may have suffered under Orbán

János Bóka, who leads Fidesz's 52 MPs in the Hungarian parliament, said in his first major interview as opposition leader that "some of the criticism related to democratic backsliding had some merit." He added that Fidesz is ready to cooperate with the new government on these issues, while stopping short of accepting direct responsibility. The EU is expected to release over €10 billion in post-pandemic recovery funds to Hungary as the country nears a deadline for strengthening anti-corruption measures.
