Android 17 encrypts website names by default, but browsing isn't fully private
Google's Android 17 turns on a new privacy feature that encrypts the Server Name Indication (SNI) field — the part of a web request that previously travelled in plain text, revealing which website a user was visiting. The technology, called Encrypted Client Hello (ECH), prevents internet providers and network observers from seeing the site being opened. However, browsing remains only partially hidden, as other traffic data can still reveal online activity.
