How Germany destroyed Samsonov's army in Masuria in 1914

In late August 1914, Russian General Alexander Samsonov's 2nd Army pushed deep into German territory in Masuria, while St. Petersburg remained convinced the offensive was succeeding. In reality, the troops were walking into a carefully laid trap that within days produced one of the worst defeats of the Tsarist army in the opening months of World War One. The battle became one of the most catastrophic routs in Russian military history.
