AI "ghost" authors contaminate academic publishing with hundreds of fake experts

Researchers from Samsung and the University of Warsaw found that large language models repeatedly generate the same fictitious names as supposed experts across hundreds of AI-generated academic papers, articles and books. Fictional figures such as "Elena Vasquez" and "Marcus Chen" have appeared as co-authors and subject experts despite never existing. The phenomenon poses a serious threat to the integrity of academic publishing and citation databases.
