Red Cross mobilises in Nepal after disaster: 'Entire villages washed out'

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is mounting a disaster response in Nepal after floods washed out entire villages and communities. Spokesperson Tommaso Della Longa said the key challenge is not only the scale of destruction but also the difficulty of reaching areas cut off by destroyed roads, bridges and communications. Search, rescue and life-saving aid delivery remain the top priorities. Local Red Cross volunteers are supporting their communities while some have themselves lost homes or relatives.
