Waymo and Zoox test drivers suffered 20+ injuries from sudden autonomous braking

Test drivers for Waymo and Zoox sustained more than two dozen injuries in 2024 and 2025 due to hard braking or other sudden movements by autonomous vehicles, according to OSHA filings reviewed by TechCrunch. Injuries included sprains, general pain and whiplash. The incidents are coming to light as both companies aggressively expand their robotaxi operations.
